Nervous about a boudoir shoot? Honest answers to first-timer worries

If you're nervous about a boudoir shoot, you're in very good company. Most people feel the same way at first, and that's perfectly normal.
Doing something new and a little out of your comfort zone is meant to feel like a big deal.
The good news is that nerves rarely last long once you arrive.
Below are ten worries that come up again and again. For each one, I'll explain how a day at London Boudoir by Adam Csomor takes care of it.
Is it normal to feel nervous about a boudoir shoot?
Completely. Worry number one is often the nerves themselves: "What if I'm too anxious to enjoy it?"
The day starts gently. You'll have professional hair, makeup and lashes first, and you can relax with a glass of wine while that's happening. By the time you step in front of the camera, you've had time to settle, chat and laugh with us.
Barbi, my wife and co-founder, is there at every shoot too. A big part of her job is making sure you feel at ease.
What if I don't know how to pose?
Worry two: "I'm not a model." Worry three: "I'll look stiff or awkward."
Nobody needs modelling experience. I guide you through every pose, step by step: where to put your hands, how to turn your shoulders, where to look. If something doesn't feel right, we change it. I've written more about this in I'm not a model and have no idea how to pose.
Do I need to lose weight first, or am I too old?
Worry four is weight. Worry five is age. They often arrive together.
You don't need to change anything about your body before a shoot. We photograph every body shape, size, and age, and we choose posing and lighting to suit you as you are today.
Waiting for a "better" version of yourself can mean waiting forever. Boudoir is about seeing yourself kindly, right now.
Will I still look like me after retouching?
Worry six: "I'll be edited into someone else."
Every image is fully retouched at no extra charge, but I edit less than many boudoir photographers. I'm not a fan of the "plastic doll" look. Posing and lighting do most of the work, so you still look like you, just on a really good day.
If there's anything you'd like left exactly as it is, simply tell me.
Is it awkward having a male photographer?
Worry seven is fair, and I'd rather talk about it openly. Barbi is present at every photoshoot, helping and guiding you alongside me.
My background is 12 years as a massage therapist, alongside a keen interest in fitness. I'm very used to working with people in a calm, professional way, and I know how to help bodies relax.
Worry eight is a related question: "Can I bring someone?" Yes. You're welcome to bring a friend for support, and you can ask about specials for booking with friends.
How much will I have to take off?
Worry nine: "Does boudoir mean naked?" No, not unless you want it to.
You choose your outfits and decide how revealing you'd like to be. Lingerie, a shirt, a bodysuit or a soft robe all work beautifully. You can change your mind on the day, and we'll follow your lead.
Who will see my photos, and what if I hate them?
Worry ten is really two worries: privacy and disappointment.
Your session is 100% private. We only share an image online with your written permission, and saying no is completely fine.
You'll see your photos at the studio on the same day. And we offer a 100% money-back guarantee: if you're not blown away by your photos, we refund your session fee.
Reading other people's experiences can help too. Have a look at our client reviews.
Questions people ask
Should I tell anyone I'm doing a boudoir shoot?
That's entirely up to you. Some people tell a close friend, some tell their partner, and some keep it just for themselves. There's no right answer.
Can I meet you before the shoot?
Yes. We offer pre-shoot consultations in Wimbledon, or by phone or video call. It's a good way to ask questions and calm a few nerves early.
What if I get really nervous on the day?
Tell us. We'll slow down, take a breather or try something simpler. Most people find the nerves fade within the first few poses.
